Big Sean is an American rapper, singer and songwriter. He’s known for such albums as Finally Famous, Hall of Fame, Dark Sky Paradise and I Decided. Sean was born Sean Michael Leonard Anderson on March 25, 1988 in Santa Monica, California. His parents are Myra and James Anderson. He has two brothers, Gregg Pluta and Chris Jinkins. Sean was raised in Detroit, Michigan by his mother and grandmother. There he attended Detroit Waldorf School followed by Cass Technical High School.
CAREER
Sean started out doing weekly rap battles on the Detroit hip-hop station, WHTD. He met Kanye West in 2005 while West was doing a radio interview at 102.7 FM in Mount Clemens, Michigan. Sean impressed West with his freestyle and gave him a copy of his demo tape. He was signed to West’s Good Music two years later. Sean’s debut mixtape, Finally Famous Vol. 1: The Mixtape, was released in September 2007. It was led by the hit single “Get’cha Some”, which was produced by WrighTrax. Volume 2 of his mixtape was released in 2009 followed by volume 3 in 2012. A fourth mixtape titled ‘Detroit’ was released in September 2012. It featured guest artists like J. Cole, French Montana and Kendrick Lamar.
Sean’s debut studio album, Finally Famous, was released in June 2011 by Good Music and Def Jam Recordings. The album peaked at #3 on the Billboard 200. It featured the singles “My Last” featuring Chris Brown, and “Marvin & Chardonnay” featuring Kanye West and Roscoe Dash. His sophomore album, Hall of Fame (2013), sold upwards of 150,000 copies in the United States. Sean was signed to Roc Nation in 2014. His third album, Dark Sky Paradise, was released in February 2015. It peaked at #1 on the Billboard chart and was certified Platinum by the RIAA. It was supported by the singles “IDFWU”, “Blessings” and “I Know”.
A fourth album dubbed ‘I Decided’ was released on February 3, 2017. It marked Sean’s first concept album and featured production from Metro Boomin, DJ Dahi, DJ Mustard and several others. The album was led by the singles “Bounce Back” and “Moves”. A song titled “No Favors” featuring Eminem took shots at President Donald Trump.
In addition to music, Sean is also making his mark in the world of fashion. His clothing company, Aura Gold, was launched in 2013. Sean was featured in the 2008 winter Billionaire Boys Club lookbook. He’s also represented Ti$A clothing and Rosewood clothing style.
